Here are some Healthy Happenings in the Triangle area for the month of May. Warmer weather has finally begun to stick around. That means that the opportunities to get out and about are plentiful! Our goal with this series is to help friends, family, customers, and partners discover opportunities to not only get out and move more, but to support great causes along the way!
This month is full of wonderful events that do just that. If you are looking for a fun weekend activity that gets the whole family moving, look no farther.
Sunday, May 5 – Racing For Rescues
This event, sponsored by Second Chance Pet Adoptions, gives you the opportunity to run a 5K with your furry friend! If you aren’t a dog-owner, never fear. There are separate timed races, one for runners with dogs and another for solo runners. So there’s options for everyone. There is also an non-timed 1.5 mile walking course for those looking for something a little less intense.
With raffles, race prizes, food trucks, complimentary snacks, AND adoptable pets to meet, this event is a great opportunity to get the whole family out for a fun-fulled day. Including the family pooch!

So anyone can enjoy the event!
Whether you are a mom, have a mom, want to be a mom… this race is for all. Yet encourages us to think of our amazing moms on this special day.

Friday, May 17th – Catching Fireflies 5K
Where else will you get the opportunity to run a 5k at night, on a course lined with an amazing display of luminaries? This unique event is the only luminary run in Raleigh held on a nice, hot North Carolina evening where you may even have a chance to catch a few fireflies!
Runners also get a glow stick or glow necklace. It’s a sight to behold watching a trail of lights along the quiet streets!
At the same time you can honor a friend or family member who has battled cancer by purchasing a luminary with their name on it – to help light the way for others. A portion of the proceeds and 100% of the purchase price of the luminaries goes directly to Cancer Shucks.
